The representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, received His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister, at his residence in New York City today, His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, and the delegation accompanying him, on the sidelines of Proceedings of the meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, the repercussions related to the ruling issued by the Federal Supreme Court in the brotherly Republic of Iraq, declaring the unconstitutionality of the law ratifying the agreement regulating maritime navigation in Khor Abdullah concluded between the State of Kuwait and the Republic of Iraq in 2012, which was ratified and deposited with the United Nations in 2013, were discussed. And the historical fallacies contained in the ruling regarding the State of Kuwait.
His Highness, may God protect him, stressed the need for the government of the Republic of Iraq to take concrete, decisive and urgent measures to address the ruling and the historical fallacies contained therein in a way that preserves good neighborly relations.
His Highness, may God protect him, also stressed the need to adhere to the security, independence and territorial integrity of both countries, the agreements concluded between them and the relevant international resolutions, most notably Security Council Resolution No. 833, which delineated the land and sea borders between the two sides up to the nautical mark No. 162, as His Highness affirmed, may God protect him, Based on the desire of the State of Kuwait that the demarcation of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi maritime borders beyond Mark 162 be completed during the coming period, in accordance with international laws and conventions.
